Chance Shirley

Drummer for We Might Die and Santa Muerte
Recording and Audio Engineer
Musician for 25+ years

After stealing his step-dad’s cds based on how cool the covers looked, Chance was determined to learn how to play the guitar. The KISS “Destroyer” album became his new obsession and he has been jamming ever since. Because it was before the days on the world wide web and he grew up in a remote small town that was outnumbered by cows, he had to rely on riffs in magazines (that were never accurate) or by figuring it out.

By high school, Chance was playing in his first bands and writing anthems to rage-against-the-machine to. Whether he was in a grind band, metal, or one of the many flavors of punk, his music was always energetic and chaotic at times. Due to an injury that healed improperly when he was young, he had to modify how he played chords. This combined with the lack of resources in his small New Mexican hometown, he created a very unique riff writing ability. Many comment on how they would have never been able to write the progressions he comes up with. In order to stay in back-to-back creative projects, Chance had to be resourceful and learn to play multiple instruments. And in 2011 he started learning how to record and produce music to help his passion reach further audiences. After moving to Las Vegas, Chance began taking professional training and learned music theory to help round out his skills.

Not only does Chance Drum for WMD, he also writes many of their riffs and records all of their songs. When he’s not immersed in writing and playing music, he is collecting NES, SNES, and N64 cartridges and building Star Wars lego sets. He is extremely dedicated to his family, so it is a dream come true, to be able to tour and play shows with them regularly.  He also happens to be an amazing chef.
