Matty Hooton

Guitarist for We Might Die and I’ll Catch Fire
Recording and Audio Engineer
Musician for 30+ years

Matty is the newest addition to the We Might Die Fam. He was born in Rhode Island but was raised in Southern California. After spending more than half of his life in Las Vegas, he now calls Sin City his hometown.

He picked up his first guitar at 12 and learned anything he could get his hands on. This included scouring the shelves of his local music stores to find any books or magazines with tabs in them. The first songs Matty learned were from The Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails. When he was gifted Generator by Bad Religion, Frankenchrist by Dead Kennedys, and Beat the Bastards by The Exploited; he instantly fell in love with punk. Pop-punk was exploding at this time in San Diego and Matty could not get enough of the intensity and melodies from the two genres. Tabs for this music didn’t exist, so he learned to play everything by ear.

Over the last 30 years, Matty has been in several musical projects including Private Idea and Velveteen Hour out of San Diego and is currently in I’ll Catch Fire out of Las Vegas. Over the years he picked up synth, bass, and music production. He is the producer and audio engineer for I’ll Catch Fire and helps put together demos for other bands in the Vegas Valley.

When Matty isn’t diving head first into music and supporting the scene, he spends his time with his family, playing video games, and riding his motorcycle. Oh, and he’s a pilot. he can fly REAL planes.
